New Jersey Lemon Law Attorney Robert Silverman Hon

Cherry Hill, NJ (PRWEB) March 25, 2008 -- New Jersey Lemon Law Attorney Robert M. Silverman, founding partner of the lemon law firm of Kimmel & Silverman ( a.k.a 1-800-LEMON LAW) has been named a 2008 New Jersey Super Lawyer in a recent study by Law & Politics Magazine. This is the fourth year Silverman has received this distinction and he is the only lemon law lawyer in New Jersey to receive this honor. The findings are being published in the April 2008 issue of New Jersey Monthly.

Attorneys throughout New Jersey were asked to vote for the most effective attorneys they have personally observed in action, with the top vote getters being named Super Lawyers. Only five percent of all attorneys statewide received this honor. Silverman was recognized for building the state's first full-service lemon law firm and assisting more than 45,000 distressed drivers with cost-free legal representation. Kimmel & Silverman attorneys argue in Courts in all counties throughout Southern, Central and Northern New Jersey

Kimmel & Silverman made headlines when they successfully appealed a decision Honda received by a Camden County Superior Court, which limited warranty rights for New Jersey lessees. This decision continues to ensure that New Jersey lessees have the same lemon law and breach of warranty rights as those who purchase their cars. In addition, Silverman was asked by the State to teach arbitrators and mediators the fundamentals of the New Jersey Lemon Law in a series of workshops, and he was labelled a "pioneer in lemon law" by the Newark Star Ledger.

In the last seventeen years, the firm has grown to include six full-service offices across New Jersey, Eastern and Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Delaware with a team of 18 attorneys, four certified automotive experts and a support staff of over 40 employees. The firm's attorneys have also successfully represented consumers against several automotive manufacturers in class action suits, and have expanded their practice to include automotive dealer fraud claims and unfair trade practice litigation. Most recently, the Firm has expanded to offer services throughout Ohio, Washington DC, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

This is the most recent honor for Kimmel & Silverman, whose lemon law efforts have been featured in Consumer Reports, Kiplingers, USA Today, and hundreds of newspaper stories throughout the Northeast. Their firm is also the only lemon law firm in the nation to be honored by the American Bar Association (Meritorious Recognition, Louis M. Brown Legal Access Award).

Joseph Agiato, Massachusetts Governor Signs into Law Comprehensive Identity Theft Prevention Legislation

Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) August 5, 2007 -- Governor Deval Patrick from Massachusetts announced today that he signed into law comprehensive identity theft prevention legislation. This new law will require Massachusetts state residents be notified immediately if their personal information has been lost or stolen via security breaches with businesses and government agencies.

As a part of the legislation, the law also states that consumers have the right to freeze their credit reports to prevent new accounts from being fraudulently opened and also puts into effect strict standards for businesses when disposing of personal information.

The portion of the law that puts into place the standards for disposing of personal information is a step in the right direction to identity theft prevention. But allowing a consumer to freeze their credit report does not prevent the theft -- it only gives them notification that the theft has happened and illegal activity is being committed. The personal information is already in the hands of the wrong people. When personal information, such as social security numbers, drivers' license numbers or bank account information is in the hands of a thief, an emotional and expensive mess is left for the victim to clean up.

"Of the millions of victims of identity theft last year, over half of them had crimes committed against them that had nothing to do with a credit card or loan. This would not be picked up by a credit report," says Michael J. Durnack, president and CEO of Identity Defense. Durnack goes on to say, "The black market is booming for individuals' names and IDs for thieves to sell, which creates more of an incentive for hackers to obtain them in mass quantities. The problem is going to get worse before it gets better."

The end to this problem can be as simple as consumer education. Identity Defense has created a proprietary ID risk assessment that categorizes the threat level of an individual's risk to identity theft. When the assigned ID risk level has been determined, personalized recommendations for modifying habits and behaviors to reduce risk are offered with Identity Defense's Customized Personal Report (CPR). The process is simple and gives the consumer control of his personal information.

Durnack states, "This is comparable to fire prevention, not firefighting."

IdentityDefense.com is a consultancy committed to helping individuals defend their identity from theft and fraud. An innovative and proprietary set of tools have been developed to help quantify vulnerability and create personalized recommendations for modifying habits and behaviors to reduce risk with Identity Defense's Customized Personal Report (CPR). These tools are provided to individuals online at www.IdentityDefense.com and also offered directly to financial institutions, credit unions and financial planners to offer their customers tangible Identity Defense solutions.
